Freeport, Ill. —
Karen Sue (Cromwell) Clankie, 58, of Freeport passed away peacefully on
Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at home surrounded by her loving family after nine
months of battling cancer.
She was born on June 20, 1950, in Freeport, the daughter of Fred and
Ethel (Stichter) Cromwell. Karen graduated from Aquin High School. She
married her soul mate and loving husband, Tom Clankie on Oct. 23, 1980.
Karen was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and
aunt. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, studying and
researching her genealogy, decorating her home and spending time with
her beloved pets. Karen earned her CNA certificate and cosmetology
degree from Highland College.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Clankie; two sons and four
daughters, Steffany (Dan) Halzel of Portland, Ore., R, Dynell (Chris)
Bouvia, Trever (Chrissy) Clankie and Tommy (Tina) Clankie, all of
Freeport, Tamma (John) Martz of Lanark and Trinity (TJ) Heck of
Freeport. She is survived by 24 grandchildren, Mathue, Jessica, Nichole,
Noah, Emily, Jacob and Daniel Halzel, all of Portland, BriAhna, Kaylee,
Zachary and Lexie Bouvia, all of Freeport, Britten, Heavenlee and Trever
Clankie, all of Freeport, Kiley Ann, Caitlin, Carter, Tommy, Tatum and
Teagen Clankie, all of Freeport, Jonathan, McKayla and Darian Martz, all
of Lanark, and Trey Heck of Freeport; and one brother, Fritz Cromwell of
Portage, Wis. She also is survived by four nephews and three nieces,
Todd Wirsing, Crystal Franklin and Chad Wirsing, all of Freeport, John
Cromwell of Beloit, Wis., Angie Cromwell of Mindoro, Wis., and Shelly
Lillge of Dakota; and 24 grandnephews and grandnieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Cromwell, her
loving daughter, Tracy; her sister, Diane Cromwell and her mother- and
father-in-law, Fred and Georgia Clankie of Rockford.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Schwarz Park
Blvd, Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd., Freeport, with Rev. William Heck of
Faith Life Fellowship officiating.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the
chapel. Cremation will follow the service.
A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Following the
services a luncheon will be held at Faith Life Fellowship.
