授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
If Mary "stopped" dancing, Mary used to dance. If "Mary's cat" meowed, Mary has a cat. The sentence ``Mary speaks Italian too" presupposes that Mary speaks a language other than Italian. Where do these presuppositions come from? On the other hand, negation is considered to be a "hole" to presuppositions. In ``Mary did not stop dancing," ``not" does not negate that Mary was dancing. We will investigate what is called presupposition projection problem, accommodation and other related topics.

Students will be able to understand what presupposition projection and accommodation are. They will know what are called presupposition triggers, plugs, holes, and filters in English.
