| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
This course provides the knowledge on the meaning of English words, phrases and sentences. Students will learn model-theoretic semantics of natural languages. What is meaning? Does a sentence structure change the meaning of the sentence? Can we calculate the meaning of a sentence from the meaning of its parts, or constituents? The answers to these questions will be given in this course. | ||

Students will learn how to represent meaning of sentences in truth-conditional semantics-both set-theoretic and functional analysis. Students will be able to express the meaning of English expressions with logical methods. | ||

Students will take turns in explaining some pages from the textbook and work on the exercises. At the end of the course, students will take an exam. Class 1: housekeeping and page assignment Classes 2-15: reading Final Exam |

60% of grading will be based on class activities and 40% depends on the final exam. At least 80% attendance is required to pass the course. | ||
