授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This course will introduce to the student the basic concepts and examples of English etymology. Etymology is the fascinating discipline of the origin of words. Did you know that the word salary comes from Latin salarium, derived from sal meaning ‘salt’, because Roman soldiers were paid allowance to buy salt? Or that the word dandelion comes from French dent de lion, meaning ‘lion tooth’? Learning English etymology is not only fun, but it can also help the learners of English to memorize new English words.

The evaluation of the chalk talk will be based on how confidently the student presents to the audience and the clarity of the spoken English.
Absence for a justifiable reason will not be counted for the attendance grading.
