授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This course aims to develop English discussion and presentation skills by considering information related to the development and current state of the English language.
達成目標
/Course Goals
By the end of this course students should be able to:
a) Explain information in English in class presentations and to partners in small groups.
b) Understand the main principles and issues learned throught class materials.
c) Carry out 2 research projects on language related themes.
授業内容
/Course contents
* Each week, students read information about the development of the English language. This is followed by discussions of the issues using handouts prepared by the teacher.
* During the course, students will give 2 formal presentations to their classmates and write up a report on each of those presentations.

* Study vocabulary for weekly quizzes
* Research language topics and gather data for class presentations

/Teaching materials
The teacher will prepare handouts containing information on the weekly topics including reading texts and discussion activities.
* Handouts will be available on Manaba each week before class.

* Vocabulary Quizzes - 20%
* Presentation 1 & Report - 40%
* Presentation 2 & Report - 40%
成績評価の基準
/Grading Criteria
Presentations will be graded and feedback will be given to students by the following class. Presentations are graded as follows:
* English fluency & accuracy
* Organisation of the content (how coherent and coherence)
* Presentation skills - persuasiveness and use of visual aids.

Written reports will be graded and returned to students by the following class. The reports are graded as follows:
* English fluency and accuracy
* Persuasiveness of the argument
* How well the essay conforms to academic writing conventions.

* The medium of instruction of this course is English, including class discussions and written work.
* All class materials are written in English.
* Regular attendance is expected. The absence limit is 3 classes
