授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
The human language is an inherently social phenomenon. It is therefore meaningful to understand how it works in different social contexts and provides different social functions, not only to enhance the student’s English skills in diverse social settings but also to broaden and deepen their view on the relationship between language and society. This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of sociolinguistics, the science of language in society. | ||

成績評価の方法 /Grading |
The student will be expected to participate actively during each class, which will count for 60% of the total grade. Per each class, an attendance with at least one question or comment made during the class yields 1 point. A particularly active participation allows an additional point and the student receives 2 points. An absence or total silence during the class leads to 0 point. An absence for a justifiable reason will not be counted, provided that the student reports their reason to the instructor. The midterm and the final exam will both count for 20% of the total grade. |
