授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This is an English class that focuses on improving all four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills).

Most classes will start by reading a short crime story that is set in New York, USA. Students will "investigate" the crimes and work with their peers and their New York Police Department (NYPD) partner, Detective Cody Kent, to solve the crimes.

/Course Goals
By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate the following:

1. read and listen to a variety of texts involving people in various social settings and understand the main idea of the text;

2. read and listen to a variety of texts and express one's opinion regarding the topic introduced in the text with logical reasoning;

3. use effective pragmatic strategies to communicate with peers (e.g., making a polite request, guessing, asking someone to describe another person, emphasizing an idea, softening an opnion)

The student has demonstrated an excellent understanding of the course content and has fully addressed the assigned questions/tasks.

優= 80-89
The student has demonstrated a good understanding of the course content and has addressed most of the assigned questions/tasks.

良 = 70-79
The student has demonstrated a fair understanding of the course content and has addressed the assigned questions/tasks at a satisfactory level.

可 = 60-69
The student has demonstrated some understanding of the course content and has addressed the assigned questions/tasks, but needs some improvements.

不可 = below 60
The student has demonstrated little to no effort and/or poor understanding of the basics of the course content and assignments.
