授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
To prepare students with (corpus based) vocabulary and grammar in key academic areas with an emphasis on communication through listening and speaking.  Each unit begins with a topic question that sets the theme of the lesson. The course then proceeds through several listening activities that expand the theme stage by stage.  The method emphasizes comprehensive note-taking.

/Course Goals
Through systematic use of the Cornell note-taking system, students can expect to significantly improve the way they engage in texts through both reading and listening.  Also, students will become accustomed to note-taking in a specific structure and be challenged to understand how to respond critically to articles covered.

成績評価の方法
/Grading
Standardized tests that accompany the course materials will be conducted on each unit of work covered.  In addition, alternative listening tests on the course materials using the Cornell note-taking system will be conducted approximately 4 times throughout the semester.
成績評価の基準
/Grading Criteria
Listening tests will confirm that students are taking notes correctly using key vocabulary, correctly identifying topic sentences, and satisfactory summary.  Finally, that students can respond to the article critically using Forums on Manaba.  The final score will be an average of a) raw tests scores, b) participation in Forums, and c) note-taking accomplishments.
