This is a graduate course in basic research methods that will be useful for graduate research in the social sciences. | ||
達成目標 /Course Goals |
To provide students with the foundation they need to do graduate research in the social sciences. The course compares the relative strengths and uses of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches to research. The course first discusses the philosophical assumptions for all three approaches, a review of the literature, an assessment of the use of theory and conceptual frameworks in research approaches, and reflections about the importance of writing and ethics in scholarly research. It then addresses the key elements in the process of designing and conducting a research project: 1) Writing an introduction 2) Stating a purpose or research aims for the study 3) Identifying research questions and hypotheses 4) Deciding on methods and procedures for data collection, analysis, and interpretation |
