| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
The aim of this class is to increase awareness of essay types and structure through writing short essays on a topic chosen by the teacher. Each essay will focus on the topic from a distinct perspective. During the course of the semester, participants will have the opportunity to meet online with overseas guest and discuss aspects of writing. | ||

| 授業内容 ／Course contents |
1. Introduction to English writing 2-5 Unit 1: From presentation to essay In this unit students will make presentations about the topic and view presentations made by colleagues. The presentations will serve as base for two essays an expository essay based on the student’s own presentation and a compare and contrast essay in which students compare their work with that of another student. 6-10 Unit 2: Survey report In this unit students will learn how to make a questionnaire, how to analyze the data collected; how to write a report based on the questionnaire data. 11-14 Unit 3: Using literature In this unit students will learn how to write literature review. The unit will include: writing an abstract, quoting, writing a review 15 Reflections and feedback |

| 事前学修・事後学修 ／Preparation and review class |
Students will need to create a Google account. Homework will be submitted through Google docs. The instructor will make comments and students need to rewrite their text based on the comments. Rewriting is a very important activity. Over the semester, we will have Virtual Guests from European countries. Students will need to use Zoom. Depending on the country of origin of the guest, the class might be scheduled outside the regular timetable. |

Grading will reflect the degree of achievement of goals a-c as follows: (a) master appropriate vocabulary and grammar (b) be able to express ideas in writing clearly (c) use appropriate style 100-90: exceptional contribution to the class 89-80: strong performance 79-70: meets expectations 69-60: meets expectations with support 59-0: performs below expectations |
