| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
This course aims to improve your English speaking and writing skills through: • Reading and discussing English language media; • Learning about and practicing presentation skills in class • Writing essays on class topics • Group projects - investigating a current affairs issue and giving a presentation about their findings in class. |

| 達成目標 ／Course Goals |
The objective for this course is for students to be able to perform the following skills in English: • Understand and explain information from English language media • Communicate their opinions about issues in the media in a persuasive way • Research and analyse a current affairs issue and present the information in a persuasive way. These practical activities are intended to develop students' communication skills in English, including negotiation, persuasion and presentation skills. |

| 授業内容 ／Course contents |
This course uses task-based language learning, where students interact with each other in English in pairs or small groups to get information and solve problems. Weekly activities include reading online newspaper articles, watching online videos, discussions and debates. Week 1: Course Introduction – Hopes and Fears Week 2: Personality profiles Week 3: The value of education Week 4: The value of the humanities. Week 5: The value of science Week 6: The marketization of education Week 7: Gender and personality Week 8: Equality at work Week 9: Class surveys Week 10: Language and culture Week 11: Phobias Week 12: Presentation Preparation Week 13: Presentations Week 14: Language Issues Week 15: Final test preparation – Practising debating skills End of Course Speaking & Writing Test |

「秀」Very fluent communication in written & spoken English. Confident & proficient presentation skills. 「優」Fluent & accurate communication in written & spoken English. Good presentation skills 「良」Quite confident & accurate in spoken & written English on general topics. Clear presentations, but problems with fluency and vocabulary 「可」Basic communication in spoken & written English: reasonable fluency with some basic errors. Short presentations in slow, hesitant English with memorized script. |
