| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
This course discusses the topics of negation and indexicality in English language. Negative words are not limited to the negative ``not" but the strength varies depending on words and phrases. For example, what is the difference between ``Students do not speak Thai" and ``No students speak Thai"? The course also discusses so called indexicals such as ``I" ``you" ``here" and ``today." Can context change the reference of these words? These questions will be answered in the course. |

Students will be able to: i) analyze negative expressions in English ii) identify monotonicity of phrases iii) familialize themselves with referential expressions and context change |

Students will read linguistic papers on negation and indexicality and examine words, phrases and sentences in English. |
