This is an introductory course in general linguistics. It will cover a wide variety of topics from language evolution to language death. | ||

To give students a broad understanding of what linguistics is about. To hopefully encourage students to look at language differently and to think about what they can discover that is interesting about English or Japanese. | ||

This is a lecture and discussion course. It will be important for students to participate in the discussion and to ask questions when they do not understand. | ||
成績評価の基準 /Grading Criteria |
Participation in the course and attendance are important, as is the project in this course. Depending upon the number of students in the course, the project may be a final paper on a linguistic topic, or a presentation. Final information will be given on this in roughly the third week of the course. There may also be a mid-term or final test. | ||
