授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
The aim of this course is to offer an introduction to English Linguistics for students interested in a career as English teachers or simply interested in the English language. The course will provide information regarding the evolution of the English language as it spread from the language spoken on an island to the global language it is today and discuss semantic and pragmatic issues that arise from the use of English as Lingua Franca, aiming to deepen students’ understanding of the role of English in the world and build their skill internationally-minded users of English. | ||

The course will consist of: preparatory activities for developing the required skills; short lectures; discussions and data collection and analysis. Students will learn how to extract semantic information from a database; use linguistic and cultural context to interpret utterances correctly. | ||

1. The structure of language; 2-5. Semantics: English history and the vocabulary of English; English history and spelling; figurative language; 6. Descriptive linguistics and linguistic behavior; 7.
