授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
Reading is one of the language skills which must be learned -- it does not come naturally. With this in mind, this course will focus on extensive free reading in which students do not need to overly rely on a dictionary. In addition, students will also read more challenging academic articles which require more attention to vocabulary and precise meaning. Finally, students will focus on particular reading skills such as skimming, inferring meaning and understanding grammar. In-class the teacher will setup active learning tasks and group work exercises so that students can discuss homework readings with classmates and to check each other's comprehension. |

達成目標 /Course Goals |
By the end of the course students will have become familiar with academic texts and will have learned how to identify main ideas and the writers' conclusions. Students will sharpen their scanning skills - the ability to quickly find important information and to understand the overall meaning of a text or article. In addition, they will learn how to summarize such findings in their own words. | ||
