| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
The main focus of this course will be on improving students’ reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. In class students will read short and long passages and practice the skills of skimming, scanning and identifying main ideas and meaning from context. Students will also hold discussion on the topics in the passages they read. Speed reading will also be practiced. | ||

After completing the course students will be able to read and comprehend English passages at the intermediate level. They will also be able to read with speed and voice their opinions on topics they read about. | ||

Before coming to class students are supposed to do a short reading on something, e.g. a news story, a magazine article, an online blog comment, etc. and explain that to their group members. There will be homework assignments. | ||

The final grade will be: - 10% - attendance, participation and attitude - 20% - homework assignments - 30% - mid-term exam - 30% - final exam |
