This class primarily aims at improving your TOEFL ITP scores and productive skills in English, acquring basic skills for writing and oral presenation (speech / discussion / debate / presentation, etc.). トーフルの受験方法と対策および英語のリスニングおよび発話技能の向上を目指します。 |

By the end of this course, you are expected to be able to understand the structure of a TOEFL test and improve scores as well as understand given topics precisely and improve your skills to express your own ideas on them in both speaking and writing medium. | ||
| 授業内容 ／Course contents |
Class Procedures: 1. Listen to a song for perception 2. Listen to NHK News Japan for dictation 3. TOEFL Preparation 4. Oral Presentation 5. Group Discussion DISCUSSION TOPICS DAY 1 We should keep easrly hours. DAY 2 College students should live alone. DAY 3 Club activities should be banned at school. DAY 4 Study abroad experience should be a requirement for university graduation. DAY 5 College students should study foreign languages more seriously in addition to English. DAY 6 College students should choose an occuation that suits them. DAY 7 We should consider important rules and manners for online communicaiton DAY 8 More Japanese companies should use ENglish as their main language of business. DAY 9 School and company uniforms should be abolished. DAY 10 We should promote private lodging more. DAY 11 We should limit the number of tourism from abroad. DAY 12 Tobacco should become an illegal drug. DAY 13 We should not let elementary school kids use smartphones. DAY 14 We should allow pets at apartments and condos DAY 15 Married Japanese women should be allowed to keep their family name |

| 事前学修・事後学修 ／Preparation and review class |
1) Listen to the three sentences in STEP 0 Preview Dictation and write them down on the space on the textbook before you come to class. 2) Listen to NHK news in English every day either at 2 or 8 p.m. 3) Review and organize all the lexical items you learned in each lesson. 4) Keep listening to TOEFL dialogs and speeches as well as reading passages. 5) Try to increase the opportunities to speak English with international students on campus and/or tourists to improve your skills required for intercultural communication. |

Attendance:30% Participation:30% Quizes:10% Exam:30% 授業中のペアワーク、グループワーク、クラスワークへの参加度（積極度）を最大の評価の基準とする。教科書不携帯および遅刻は欠席扱いとする。TOEFL ITPを受験すると定期試験に加点される。 |

| 履修上の注意事項 ／Remarks |
1. Speak English only in class. 2. Use a smartphone for search and other purposes in class 3. Bring your electronic or paper-based English dictionary for class. 4. Be sure to bring the text book on the first day of instructions. 5. Coming to class without the textbook or a tardy will be counted as one absence. (With three absences, you will fail this class.) 6. Take a TOEFL ITP test as often as possible. |
