| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
This course consists of classroom activities and on-line activities. The classroom is mainly for practice at speaking, listening, and communication. Preparation and review quizzes will be online and will be done outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to be active learners. There is an online component to this course. It is designed to enhance the classroom activities and provide a forum for communication. E-learning activities are designed to improve communication ability, introduce and reinforce vocabulary, strengthen grammar, and improve listening ability. Students are encouraged to access the Moodle site regularly to make English learning a daily habit so that students can become autonomous learners. | ||
| 達成目標 ／Course Goals |
The major goal of this practical course is to build foundational English communication skills useful in the real world. Although the main focus is placed on oral communication, importance is also placed on vocabulary building, grammar, reading skills, as well as listening comprehension. At the end of this course students are to be able to initiate and continue basic conversation in various daily settings, listen to conversations or explanations and understand the content, read short articles and understand the contents, acquire information from the Internet, summarize it, and exchange it with others, and form opinions and express them in pairs and in small groups. | ||

| 成績評価の方法 ／Grading |
The grading is based on the following factors: video homework quizzes (these are short videos followed by some questions), two speaking tests, on-line unit quizzes, on-line listening quizzes, short writing activities, and active participation in classroom activities. Students will lose points for inappropriate use of cell phones in class, sleeping in class, and other inappropriate behavior. | ||

This is an interactive, communication-centered class, which focuses on the student. Students are expected to be active learners. Interpersonal communication skills are important. Basic computer skills are necessary, such as using the internet to find information, remembering passwords and user names, doing on-line homework, and so on.
