| 授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
The course covers standard topics of microeconomics. We will study classic topics in perfect competition but this course is a sequel to Introductory Microeconomics. Thus, that is an absolute prerequisite. This course picks up at what Introductory Microeconomics stops at; therefore, it starts with producer theory and continues up to imperfect competition and so on as far as time allows. | ||
| 達成目標 /Course Goals |
Along with Introductory Microeconomics, this course aims to provide students with basic tools of microeconomics analysis essential to all fields of economics and finance. |
||
| 授業内容 /Course contents |
Students are expected to enjoy arguments with mathematics. As in Introductory Economics, unless you know calculus and algebra, it is not your course. We plan to review them when needed. I will tailor the course according to the students' technical preparedness and make the course self-contained. That said, I suppose the students to be either those who have prior knowledge of microeconomics or who are fairly good at the mathematics above mentioned. The only caution to give is: you should not take this course if you will shy away from equations! |

| 使用教材 /Teaching materials |
We plan to use Hal Varian's ``Intermediate Microeconomics: a Modern Approach'' Norton, 2003 as a textbook. We cover from Ch 18 onwards except game-related chapters as long as we can go. Please refer to the table of content of the textbook for detail. |
